I truly enjoyed this biostatistics course because it gave me the opportunity to explore a wide range of research tools and software that are essential for data analysis in public health and medical research. Learning about statistical packages and analytical environments made the subject feel practical rather than just theoretical.
It was exciting to see how raw data could be transformed into meaningful results using real research tools. Every new tool introduced opened a window into how professional biostatisticians work, and that made the learning experience especially rewarding for me.
One of my favorite aspects of the course was attending lectures through Zoom. The virtual learning format made it flexible and easy to stay engaged regardless of location, and it also reflected real-world research collaboration, which increasingly happens online.
What made it even more enjoyable was that each Zoom lecture was delivered by a different lecturer, bringing fresh perspectives, teaching styles, and areas of expertise.
I also enjoyed the exposure to multiple software tools commonly used in biostatistics. The lessons helped me understand the strengths of different platforms for tasks such as data cleaning, visualization, statistical modeling, and interpretation.
It felt empowering to recognize which software is best suited for certain types of analysis and research designs. The course motivated me to practice more independently and reinforced my interest in working with data-driven decision-making.
Overall, the course was both educational and inspiring. The Zoom-based delivery combined with contributions from different lecturers made it feel dynamic and collaborative. More than anything, I enjoyed seeing how research tools bridge the gap between numbers and real public health insights.
It strengthened my analytical confidence and reminded me that biostatistics is not just about calculations it's about solving real problems with the help of powerful, purposeful technologies.

I recently completed the Research Tools & Software in Biostatistics course, and it has been a game-changer for me. The program covered a wide range of topics, including data management, statistical analysis, and data visualization using industry-standard software like R, SAS, and SPSS.
What I enjoyed most about the course was the hands-on approach, which allowed me to apply theoretical concepts to real-world datasets and gain practical experience.
One of the highlights of the program was the in-depth coverage of R, a popular software for statistical analysis and data visualization. I appreciated how the course delved into R's extensive package ecosystem, including dplyr, ggplot2, and tidyr, among others.
The instructors were knowledgeable and provided clear explanations, making it easy to grasp complex concepts. I also enjoyed the interactive sessions, where we worked on real-world projects and received feedback from peers and instructors.
The course also covered other essential tools and software, such as SAS and SPSS, which are widely used in the industry. I appreciated how the program highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of each software, enabling me to choose the best tool for a given task.
The discussions on data management, data cleaning, and data visualization were particularly insightful, and I have already applied these skills in my current role.
Overall, I highly recommend the Research Tools & Software in Biostatistics course to anyone interested in biostatistics, data analysis, or research. The program has equipped me with the skills and confidence to tackle complex data analysis projects and contribute to research studies.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this program and look forward to applying my new skills in my future endeavors.

The tutors were very understanding to each and everyone. They understood that not everyone had previous experience & whereas I had previous experience with some of the tools, the pace of teaching was optimal.
The literature given especially with some modules like Excel and Tableau were very enriching. The notes didn't just stop at slides of pdfs but a variety of links to more educational content on YouTube and other sites. This meant in depth studying and analysis something that has made my journey in research tools worthwhile.
Initially, I thought we would study everyday of the weekend and therefore on some weekends where only one day was used, the other day was an opportunity for me to catch up on what I couldn't understand.
The forum for discussion was helpful to not only me but my fellow classmates as well. For any inquiries, I used it to clarify a few things and then to also help my fellow classmates improve on where I understood better.

Through this short course, I greatly valued how the content was delivered with engaging, practical methodologies that kept participants inspired rather than overwhelmed.
The instruction combined clear theory with hands-on exercises, making each session both informative and enjoyable. The modules were thoughtfully organized and presented in a flexible format, which accommodated different learning paces and professional schedules while maintaining depth and rigor.
Specifically, I learned substantial skills in writing research proposals and developing acceptable concept notes. The guidance on framing research questions, outlining methodologies, and articulating measurable outcomes has given me a solid foundation to pursue competitive grants.
I now approach proposal development with a structured process: defining purpose, identifying gaps, selecting appropriate designs, and forecasting potential impacts in a compelling, evidence-based narrative.
The course also clarified funding criteria and donor expectations, helping me tailor applications to align with funders’ priorities and timelines. This final award reinforces my growth as a professional who can bridge research and practical application.
It signals my readiness to design and manage research projects, translate findings into actionable interventions, and monitor progress with robust reporting.
I am better equipped to oversee grant-funded work from diverse donors, ensuring programs remain accountable, transparent, and results-oriented.
Moving forward, I will leverage these new competencies to strengthen collaboration with stakeholders, improve program quality, and demonstrate impact through clear, data-driven reporting.
Overall, this course has elevated my confidence and expanded my toolkit for contributing to evidence-based development initiatives.

Research tools in biostatistics is an impressive program that I have enjoyed a lot and never regretted having applied. As a researcher and social scientist it has improved my understanding of several research tools available to use in any research work.
Despite having prior knowledge on statistics the programme has reviewed some of the research tools I didn’t know about such as survemonkey, Enkoto, KoboCollect tool box, power BI and Tableau.
This shows that as a researcher we have a lot of tools at disposal to improve our data collection and analysis. For instance, KoboCollect is an offline data collection tool that can be used to gather data in a place where network service is poor and there is no electricity such as in rural setups as the case in most African countries.
Apart from that the integration of Artificial intelligence to SPSS shows that some tools can not replaced but incorporated and improved to make them more effective, powerful, efficient and accurate.
Hypothesis testing and making inference in based on statistics helped me to understand the importance of making data-driven decisions in credible research study.
I have also learnt how prepare and analyse data, create interactive visualizations using charts, dashboards and stories for clarity and publish reports. However, there is a lot that I have learnt and ready to use them in all my future research. Thank you.
