Name: Uwajeneza Leonisse
Uwajeneza Leonisse is an experienced neonatal nurse from Gakenke District, Rwanda, with over eleven years of clinical practice dedicated to improving newborn health, particularly for preterm and critically ill infants. She holds a Master’s in Neonatal Nursing Sciences from the University of Rwanda, a Bachelor’s in Nursing Sciences from the University of Gitwe, and a Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery from Kibungo School of Nursing. Leonisse began her career at Nemba District Hospital, providing care in surgical, pediatric, and neonatal wards, and mentoring healthcare providers in rural settings.
Since 2020, she has managed pediatric HIV care, offering clinical monitoring, counseling, nutritional assessment, and treatment adherence support. She actively contributes to national neonatal standards, quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and evidence-based protocols, including feeding and preterm follow-up programs.
Fluent in Kinyarwanda, English, and French, Leonisse is known for her empathy, professionalism, and commitment to advancing neonatal health through clinical practice, research, mentorship, and advocacy.
