Name: LEONCIE UZIKWAMBARA
Leoncie Uzikwambara is a registered nurse with a Master’s degree in Perioperative Nursing and a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Sciences, currently serving as an operating theatre nurse at King Faisal Hospital in Kigali, Rwanda. She has extensive clinical experience, including seven years in the operating theatre and five years in other departments such as maternity, internal medicine, accident and emergency, and pediatrics.
Leoncie is a clinical mentor and educator, having served as an honorary lecturer at the University of Rwanda, where she taught perioperative master’s students and supervised research projects.
She is also appointed research nurse by the Global Surgery Research Hub, contributing to studies on surgical care, patient safety, and infection prevention, with publications in peer-reviewed journals. Leoncie has participated in numerous workshops on curriculum development, surgical education, and community health outreach.
Recognized for her leadership, mentorship, integrity, and teamwork, she is committed to advancing safe surgical interventions, empowering healthcare professionals, and promoting patient-centered care while fostering continuous learning in clinical practice.

Leoncie holds a master’s degree in peri operative nursing and Bachelor degree in Nursing Sciences, working as RN Nurse in operating theatre at King Faisal Hospital, Kigali, Rwanda. Member of safety and health environment and risk management in operating theatre and appointed as research nurse in in theatre by Global surgery research Hub.

To be a professional expert per operative nurse in health care provision and clinical education in region.
PERSONAL MISSION:
To contribute in development of health care services by empowering safe surgical interventions and respect of patient right and uphold human dignity at all times and empowering continuous education within the clinical staff and student who will be in clinical placement and conducting research through good communication with our partners in health.
WORKING EXPERIENCES
Work as registered nurse in operating theatre at KING FAISAL HOSPITAL, KIGALI since
2016 up to date.
Clinical Responsibilities
Nurse in theatre prepare, scrub and circulating for various surgeries, especially
Neurosurgery, cardio thoracic surgery and Gyneco - obstetric, maxillofacial, general surgery
including minimal invasive surgery ( laparoscopic surgery ),urology and orthopedic
surgeries (ORIF,THR and arthroscopy meniscectomy).
Monitoring patient in recovery room and discharge them according to their condition.
Participated in open heart surgery especially cat lab when team heart come.
Quality improvement
Doing documentation audit, analysis and assist unit manager to do some monthly report.
Attend IPC (infection prevention and control) meeting in the hospital in terms of COVID 19
prevention in hospital setting.
Development of guideline for new staff and student orientation in operating theatre.
Participated in quality assurance activities for accreditation process by doing some research
project in theatre.
Physical and theoretical orientation of new staff , student or visitors.

Responsibilities of the shift leader in theatre are:
Managing theatre staff
Following and monitoring the implementation of theatre activities including managing theatre list, organization of operating rooms and allocated team.

Physical and theoretical orientation of new staff, student or visitors.

Holistic patient care, including patient bed bath, bed making, feeding of patient with impaired self- care deficit pattern.
Preparing and implement wound dressing and drug administration.

RESPOSABILITIES:

She has participate in 10 th annual scientific Conference for surgical society, theme was access to surgical care, challenges in moving towards sustainable development goals.
